People singing in the streets, Christmas movies playing on almost every channel, the variety of food ready for the taking, planning on making Cookies & Cocoa for Santa, and the joy of the season is what Christmas is all about. The best time of the year is around the corner and what better way to celebrate the season than to make your home merry and festive.
Whether you are the minimalistic type or someone who loves to have the full package for Christmas, there is no doubt that decorating for Christmas is a must because it makes the season come alive in unimaginable ways.
From the big Christmas tree to the stockings on the fireplace, your Christmas decorations can go in any direction.
Having a Tree is Tradition
A Christmas tree is a staple for Christmas- you can’t do without it. Big or small, having a Christmas tree in your home complements the season, brings the holiday cheer home, gives you a place to keep the gifts and build excitement, and above all, decorating the tree is always fun! We have a tradition in our home – we put up our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving and it signifies the start of the holiday season for us….
A real tree provides a natural fragrance to your home and shopping for a real tree is a fun experience for the kids. Buying a real tree is one of the many ways to support the environment and a way to encourage the growth of small businesses. However, you need to maintain a real tree because it is prone to shedding and can make a mess on your floor if you are not mindful.
A high-quality artificial tree looks quite similar to a real tree and can turn out to be a good compromise in low-maintenance homes, or places which have lack of space, living in apartments, hard to carry a tree etc. As an added bonus, most artificial trees come with built-in lights and can be found in different designs.
When buying the tree, don’t forget to get some baubles, ribbons, tinsels, star topper, tree basket, Christmas lights, and unique décor items, and unique décor items to set the mood and spirit throughout your house. It’s really magical how doing all this together brings your family closer to each other, building memories and traditions that live on for ages.
Using food as décor
Food as décor can be both beautiful and delicious to eat. You can add some dried apples to your wreath to create a rustic Christmas look and you can get a fresh batch of gingerbread cookies, to use as a centerpiece on your kitchen table or in the dining room. A well-decorated gingerbread house can complement your design and satisfy your sweet tooth.
Get some candy canes for your Christmas tree and fireplace to provide a pop of color or you can put bowls of sweets, dried nuts, and candied fruits in locations that are easily accessible. There is nothing better than having the sweet smell of food wafting around your home and some cheerful music playing in the background.
Get Some Equipment
You can’t fix your decorations without some trusty tools to help you out. Depending on the size of your tree, you would need a ladder or stool to use for decorating the tree. It would be useful in reaching out-of-range areas and can reduce the risk of accidents.
How do you keep your baubles from falling off? The answer is easy- get some wires. Get some wires (preferably in green to match your tree) to keep your baubles in the right place. If you have a real tree, these wires can be used to hold falling branches and allow your tree to maintain its full look for longer.
I’d recommend having an apron with pockets to keep all the tools you need – you don’t want to walk down the ladder or hunt for the fallen clipper while putting up your decorations! And don’t forget to have some Christmas music playing. This makes decorating enjoyable as you can connect with the music while working.
Let the Spirit of Christmas shine
Christmas is a time to be merry and your decorations should show that. You can get some professional help if you don’t want to do it yourself or you can get some family members to help you with the decorations.
You don’t have to go all out or break the bank for Christmas. Take advantage of the many discount sales during the season or use what you already have on ground. What matters is that you fill your home with warmth and love because that is the essence of Christmas.
